A young Prince George girl with cerebral palsy and a local restaurant are teaming up to raise for the Variety - The Children's Charity.
From Mon., Nov. 26 to Sat., Dec. 1, proceeds from coffee sales, and $1 from each dessert sold at Cimo Mediterranean Grill will go to the organization.
There will be also a raffle with donated prizes. Tickets are $2 each and the entire amount will benefit the charity - and in turn, children like Kira Couroux.
Couroux, 9, and her twin sister Janelle were born 11 weeks early by emergency C-section; Janelle needed heart surgery at barely three weeks old and an ultrasound of Kira's brain confirmed the diagnosis of cerebral palsy.
The twins required constant care and monthly trips to the hospital for tests. As they grew older, the staff at the Prince George Child Development Centre encouraged their mom Jen to turn to Variety for help.
"As a family we would love to take the kids berry picking, but we can't just hop in the car and go. We need so many extras and they are so expensive," she said. "Variety paid $7,000 for the ramp and tie-downs to help make the family vehicle wheelchair accessible for Kira."
Variety was there for the family, and they're proud to be able to do what they can to help the children's charity continue with its mission: "We need organizations like Variety to make sure our kids have the best lives possible with the challenges that they have."
Proceeds from the Kira's fundraiser will go towards helping children who have special needs and their families with grants for things like emergency transportation costs to out-of-community hospitals, expensive medications, mobility and communication devices, and therapeutic programs to give them the same chances in life as other children.
