Prince George Coun. Garth Frizzell is hoping to make the city shine without flashing any taxpayer coin.
The Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) will descend on Prince George early next year for one of the group's quarterly board of directors meetings.
At Monday night's meeting, Frizzell won city council's support to lead the charge.
Frizzell was re-elected to the federation's board at their annual general meeting last month.
"As the city's representative to FCM, I am offering to lead the planning, organizing and sponsorship activities for this event on behalf of council," Frizzell stated at the meeting.
Close to 200 FCM delegates and their guests will come to town March 6-9, 2013, with all board meeting expenses paid by the federation.
The organization represents 2,000 member municipalities at the federal government level.
Frizzell intends to raise the necessary $20,000 hosting budget entirely through sponsorships.
He also anticipates an estimated $450,000 generated for the local economy.
The councillor said that money will come from guests travelling to the city, staying in local hotels, eating at restaurants and taking in the sights.
"This is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase the city to other councillors across the country," said Coun. Frank Everitt.
