Traffic incidents dotted the city Friday.
The two most extreme traffic snarls were caused by chip truck incidents, one to the south and the other to the west.
In the area of the McBride Timber Road, a pair of chip trucks collided on Highway 16.
The ensuing emergency response and police investigation caused the only traffic artery into that end of Prince George to be blocked for several hours. The collision took place just before 6 a.m. and the line of halted vehicles extended for miles in either direction throughout the morning.
"There was at least one injury, but the extent of that is not known," said a police source.
Earlier, at about 3 a.m., a chip truck headed south but still on the north side of the Fraser River failed to handle a curve and rolled onto its side, partially blocking Highway 97 at the Simon Fraser Bridge.
"The driver was found to have an expired driver's license and a violation ticket was issued," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass. "Traffic flow was affected, but the highway remained open."
The next major incident happened downtown at about 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of Victoria Street and Sixth Avenue. A westbound SUV was headed through a green light when a northbound pickup ran the red light and struck the driver's side.
No injuries were reported, but a male toddler was taken by ambulance to UHNBC to be checked by a doctor. The toddler was secured in a child seat at the time of the collision.
More injuries, including at least one person requiring hospitalization, resulted from a crash at about 2:30 p.m. on the Hart Highway north of downtown. There were two vehicles involved.
