More and more Prince George residents find themselves in the role of caregiver for a family member who has some form of dementia.
As the population ages, dementia becomes more common.
Families in B.C. put in 33.1 million hours of unpaid care for people with dementia each year and 70 per cent of those caregivers are women, said Leanne Ranes, the Alzheimer Society of B.C.'s support & education coordinator for Prince George and the North Interior & Skeena.
"The physical and psychological toll on family caregivers is considerable," said Ranes.
To help caregivers the Alzheimer Society is offering a free Family Caregiver Series workshop in Prince George on Saturday, April 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Alzheimer Resource Centre, 575 Quebec St.
To pre-register call Ranes at 1-866-564-7533 or e-mail [email protected].
