National Senior’s Day is a campaign that honours older Canadians, whether they be a family member, co-worker or a friend.
To recognize the annual occasion, BC Transit is offering free service for seniors in Prince George all-day Thursday (Oct. 1).
Riders over the age of 65 can board any bus or handyDART with the northern capital’s transit system completely free of charge.
Routes, schedules and a riders guide is available on the Prince George page of BC Transit’s website.
As COVID-19 continues, transit users are being asked to wear a face-covering on local buses, as per BC Transit’s mandate on Aug. 24.
On Monday (Sept. 28), Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry touched on seniors suffering in isolation throughout the pandemic, encouraging everyone to reach out in whatever way they can.
“This week, let’s also take a moment to reach out to our seniors and Elders, our friends and loved ones who may be at risk. Let them know they are not alone, and show them you care by staying connected to them virtually this fall.”
As of this publication (Sept. 29), there are 303 confirmed COVID-19 cases in northern B.C., including 45 active cases and five in hospital, all of which are in critical care.
