The Village of Fraser Lake is continuing its work to help the community west of Prince George cope with the impending closure of West Fraser’s Fraser Lake Sawmill.

Mayor and council have been working closely with other levels of government to discuss the changes and challenges to forestry impacted communities, particularly those in rural B.C., the municipality said in a release.

“We understand the concerns of our residents as we continue to see significant impacts to forestry communities with little action being taken at senior levels,” said Fraser Lake Mayor Sarrah Storey. “Our Council is committed to advocate for our community,  residents, industry and the fibre supply and resources that have built and sustained this region since the early 1900s.”

The village is creating ongoing opportunities for feedback, allowing residents and community members to express their voices and concerns, including:

  • February 13 – Regional Resourcing Meeting
  • February 14 – Council Meeting
  • February 29 – Townhall (location to be announced) 4-7 pm
  • Spring 2024 – Career Fair (location, date and time to be announced)
  • May 2024 – Strategic Planning Community Engagement (location, date and time to be announced)
