Nearly $10,000 was raised to combat cancer when the Terry Fox Run was held Sunday in Prince George.

Event promoter Scott McWalter confirmed the total Tuesday.

"We're extremely excited from the support this great community of ours continues to show us each and every year," he said.

In all, 603 people participated, walking, running and cycling a five-kilometre loop that started and began at the Terry Fox statue at Community Foundation Park. As well, 40 volunteers were involved in putting on the event.

It is held each year in memory of Terry Fox and his heroic attempt to run across Canada in 1981.
