The B.C. Innovation Council is hosting a "regional innovation opportunity" aimed at bringing businesses of all kinds together with local tech companies this Thursday at the Civic Centre.

"At its core, it's a bit of a matchmaking exercise," said Matt Hutcheon, CEO of the Prince George-based Innovation Central Society.

"A forum for people to talk about a challenge or a problem they would like to get resolved for their business and connect with folks from across the region who may have a solution."

In support, BCIC has created a platform where businesses and industries of all types can list "what is a challenge to their growth" and allow tech-based companies, engineering students, and researchers the opportunity to develop and provide solutions for these challenges.

"At this event, they'll be given a few minutes to outline what that challenge is with the hope that somebody in the room is going to have some insight on how to maybe do that," Hutcheon said. "And they'll have a chance to connect and speak one-on-one after the fact during the networking part that the event provides."

The list of companies who will present challenges has been finalized, but Hutcheon said there are still seats available.

"There are still lots of opportunities for folks who may be innovators and solution providers and even for people just interested in learning a little bit more about some of the innovative things in the community," Hutcheon said.

The event is free and runs from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
