FortisBC to host opening celebration

Up and running for about two weeks now, a grand opening for the new FortisBC customer contact centre in downtown Prince George is set for this morning.

Up and running for about two weeks now, a grand opening for the new FortisBC customer contact centre in downtown Prince George is set for this morning.

The celebration at the Second and Dominion location follows $4 million worth of renovations and upgrades to what was previously the ACS call centre and the 100 people who work there will be among the revelers.

Entry level jobs in customer service and billing, including wages and benefits, range around $42,000 while workers with higher-rated skill sets can earn up to $64,000.

The Prince George centre will handle customer calls, "anything from bill inquiries to tips on how to save energy," said FortisBC communications manager Kirsten Walker.

A newly-opened centre in Burnaby, where 200 people are working, acts as both a call centre and a billing operations centre, she said.

Walker said the Prince George location was chosen because it's located downtown, is the right size and because FortisBC, previously Terasen, has had an operations centre in the city for a number of years.

The celebration is open to invited officials and the media.
