A 32-year-old man suspected of being partly responsible for a jump in property crime in Fort St. James could also be facing drug-related charges.

In a statement issued Wednesday, RCMP said a search following an arrest uncovered what appeared to be cocaine and packaged in a manner consistent with drug trafficking.

The suspect was one of two people identified and arrested following an uptick in break and enters and thefts from vehicles in the community 150 kilometres northwest of Prince George during the first few weeks of this month.

"We have noticed that the crimes are being committed during early morning hours. It is important to note that someone, anonymously, returned some of the stolen property to the rightful owner and, in turn, may have information to help further our investigation. We would like to speak to that person," Cpl. James Potyok added in a separate statement also issued Wednesday.

Names of the suspects were not released and charges against the two remain pending but RCMP say the counts could include theft, mischief, trafficking stolen property and obstruction.

Anyone with information that may help the investigations is asked to contact the detachment at 250-996-8269.
