A federal Liberal cabinet minister from the Chrtien era is coming to Prince George.
Lloyd Axworthy, the former minister of foreign affairs, will be speaking at Rotary's Big Blue Ball Nov. 1 at the Coast Inn of the North. He will be speaking about the "Responsibility to Protect," a concept that states independent countries have the responsibility to protect their citizens from atrocities like genocide, ethnic cleaning and war crimes or face intervention from other countries.
As a foreign affairs minister, Axworthy was known for his work on the treaty that banned landmines, for which he was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize.
The dinner is non-partisan and costs $75. Proceeds will go towards men's health issues and supporting local community projects like the Rotary soccer fields and Rotary hospice house.
