Luke Strimbold, who pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual assault on boys under 16 years old, will hear his sentence later this year.
The former mayor of Burns Lake, the youngest in the province’s history when he was elected to office at age 21 in 2011, is set to be sentenced the week of Nov. 25, 2019 as per B.C. Prosecution Service spokesperson Dan McLaughlin.
Strimbold was supposed to hear his sentence today (Sept. 23), the date was moved due to court scheduling issues.
The hearings have been taking place in Smithers court since the case was moved there from Burns Lake in April 2018.
The incidents stemming from his case dates back between May 2009 and July 2017, and had faced a total of 29 sexual assault-related charges.
Back in May of this year, Strimbold’s lawyer, Stanley Tessmer, says his client is very remorseful and he has been a good person in his life, but he has also made serious mistakes.
“He wants these boys not to feel guilty about what happened, and for them to know it's not their fault,” Tessmer said. “This is the time for the cycle of abuse to end and the healing to begin.”
