The New Democrats have convinced the B.C. Liberal government to retain provisions to protect individual workers in the Woodworkers Lien Act. The act was to be repealed as part of a new act to provide payment protection to logging contractors.

The New Democrats have convinced the B.C. Liberal government to retain provisions to protect individual workers in the Woodworkers Lien Act.

The act was to be repealed as part of a new act to provide payment protection to logging contractors. The new law is meant to enable loggers to use liens, but also establishes the concept of an insurance fund, a payment source of last resort when the forest companies the loggers are contracted to go out of business.
