Pre-trial proceedings for murder suspect John Keyler will resume in mid October, before formal trial dates are set. May of 2022 is being considered as the potential month to hold trial, which would be six weeks in duration.
Keyler appeared briefly by video for a continuation of his pre-trial conference in Fort St. John Supreme Court on Wednesday as Crown prosecutors and defence lawyers prepare for a trial.
The case is still expected go before a jury once proceedings are finished, but the location may shift to Prince George if the COVID-19 pandemic worsens in Fort St John, court heard.
Keyler was arrested at the end of July 2020 after a two-week investigation into the disappearance of Sarah Foord from her home in Taylor. RCMP said Foord's remains were found in a remote location 75 kilometres north of Fort St. John.
Keyler is charged with second degree murder and interfering with human remains. He remains in custody and has not been found guilty of the charges.
A preliminary inquiry earlier this year found there was sufficient evidence to try for a conviction.
