Prince George's Public Interest Research Group (PGPIRG) is hosting the second installment in their Food: Global to Local film series. The title of the latest documentary is Food Matters and presents a view of possible links between food choices and medicinal health, touching on modern food processing techniques that deplete food of nutrition by the time it reaches the plate.

Project co-ordinator Serena Black said that "it's great to have the opportunity to bring in a film to facilitate discussion around the food that we eat and its connection to our health. We hope people leave the film event feeling empowered about what they can do to ensure their health and well-being. Come join in the conversation."

It will literally be a conversation with the inclusion of guest speaker Marli Bodhi.

"[Bodhi will] be talking about food security issues in relation to her experience in Cuba last summer," said PGPIRG's executive director Sarah Boyd. "She will be speaking about the trade embargo and the impact on food, agriculture and health in Cuba and where they are at now."

"I will be speaking about the history before and after the trade embargo, its impact on food and agriculture, and my observations from working at an organoponico (neighbourhood food production site and sale) and of people buying healthier food now," Bodhi added.

The screening of Food Matters, and the accompanying discussion featuring Bodhi will happen Monday at 6 p.m. in UNBC's Canfor Theatre.
