Organizers of the local B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive are hoping to nearly double the amount of donations it generates this year for the Prince George Salvation Army food bank.
For the last two years more than 100 Prince George volunteers have raised 6,00-plus pounds of food, according to organizers. This year the group is hoping to gather 10,000 pounds of donations.
Volunteers will be dropping of flyers and donation bags across Prince George from today until Wednesday with instructions on how to donate.
The food drive began as an initiative of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Burnaby in 2009 -inspired by Calgary's City-Wide Food Drive - and has expanded to become a non-denominational event in 40 communities across B.C.
