Flooding has closed the section of Landooz Road between Northwood Pulpmill Road and Fraser Flats Road.
The City of Prince George closed the road on Thursday morning, after spring runoff water pooling in the ditches to either side of the road began running over the road surface. As of Friday morning, approximately a centimeter of water was running across the road.
Emergency vehicles will not have access to the area, however detours along Fraser Flats Road and Northwood Pulpmill Road allow full access. No homes or other buildings are in the immediate area of the flooding.
City transportation manager Mick Jones said the road was closed to prevent damage to the road surface while the soil underneath is saturated with water.
City crews have been clearing drainage ditches and steaming out culverts for several weeks to prevent runoff water from pooling, Jones said.
"We haven't had any major [flooding] issues so far, year to date," he said. "It's been getting cool at night, and that does slow down the melt."
