The City of Prince George is expecting to cancel the flood alert on Farrell Road later today, according to city spokesperson Mike Davis.
As of 11:45 a.m. on Monday Environment Canada reported the water level on the Fraser River at the South Fort George monitoring station to be 8.386 metres - down from a peak of 9.8 metres on July 12. Heavy rain over the weekend drove a small surge in water levels, but well below last week's peak level.
"Environment Canada is predicting minimal rain. [And] the provincial River Forecast Centre is expecting to cancel the high stream flow advisory for the Upper Fraser this afternoon," Davis said Monday.
Once that happens, the city will cancel the flood alert for Farrell Street residents and deactivate the city's emergency operations centre, Davis said.
However, Cottonwood Island Park, Paddlewheel Park and the Heritage River Trails will remain closed until further notice, he said.
