Flight tracker on YXS website

The next time you look up and see the streak of a vapour trail from an aircraft flying overhead, the next think you might want to do is look down and check your smartphone.

There are now so-called "flight tracker" apps out there that will give you the inside scoop on what type of plane it is and where it's headed and where it's come from.

You might be surprised at what you'll discover - passenger jets flying from Saudi Arabia to California have been known to cross over the Central Interior.

Prince George Airport now has a version on its recently revamped website to help passengers keep tabs on when their flights will arrive.

Go to www.pgairport.ca and click on "live flight tracking" under "flight info."

Using the feature has become a popular pastime among patrons, YXS spokesperson Lindsay Cotter said.

"It's pretty cool just to watch your nana's plane flying real time up in the air when you're waiting at the airport," Cotter said. "That's why we went with a package like that."
