A flag person working an on-road construction site in the Hart was struck by a truck and killed early Tuesday morning.
Called to the scene at 6:16 a.m., Prince George RCMP said an eastbound commercial vehicle hit the woman on Austin Road West at Highway 97 North. A CN Rail truck was towed away a few hours later.
WorkSafeBC spokesman Scott McCloy said the woman was employed by Guardian Angels and was working a City of Prince George site.
The RCMP remained the lead investigator as of Tuesday afternoon.
The woman, whose name was not released, was the second traffic control person in B.C. to die while on the job in recent years. The last fatality occurred in Duncan in 2013 when a fully-loaded dump truck struck a 29-year-old woman while she was directing a car out of a parking lot.
Another 56 flaggers were injured over the past five years, according to WorkSafeBC numbers.
Austin Road West remains closed to traffic near the intersection with Highway 97. A detour route is available via Birchwood Drive, Balsum Road and Crown Drive.
