Five straight wins for Northern Capitals after sweeping Vancouver Island at home

Prince George’s female midget AAA club moves to second place in league standings

The Northern Capitals can enjoy the holidays starting today (Dec. 2) after completing the first half of the 2019-20 season.

After winning their home-opener Friday night (Nov. 29), the ladies completed the three-game weekend sweep of the Vancouver Island Seals 4-1 and 4-2 wins on Saturday (Nov. 30) and Sunday (Dec. 1) respectively.

Prince George’s female midget AAA hockey team combined for 14 goals on home ice and the victories this weekend added to their now five-game winning streak.

Cadence Petitclerc-Crosby was in net for both Capital wins this weekend after Tessa Sturgeon earned her stripes with a shut out on Friday in Kin 2 Arena.

Forward Brette Kerley led the weekend with five points, including four goals to make it 10 on the year.

The 16-year-old alternate captain from Williams Lake even potted a short-handed marker Sunday morning with a minute left in the second period against the Seals after Destiny Bautista was called for tripping.

Kerley also had three points in that contest in the CN Centre with two goals and an assist.

Nancy Moore collected the most apples among her teammates with three.

She and Kerley were two of eight Northern Capitals with multi-point weekends against Vancouver Island.

In the last 10 games, Head Coach Mario Desjardins’ squad is 7-2-1, bringing their mid-season record to 9-6-1-0 (19 points) and a game-and-a-half ahead of the Fraser Valley Rush.

The local ladies have played two more games than the league-leading Greater Vancouver Comets, who posted 26 points from 13 wins.

The Caps will now have a month off before their next set of games, which will take place at an inter-league tournament in Coquitlam with the other four B.C. Female Midget AAA hockey teams.

Prince George’s club will play four games in three days from Jan. 10-12, 2020.
