Five Prince George non-profits are receiving a portion of more than $11 million from B.C.'s latest round of Community Gaming Grants.

The funding is targeted at boosting conservation and public safety programs that will benefit residents across the province.

"Our government is committed to supporting local organizations involved in a wide variety of activities that contribute to building vibrant, healthy communities," said Josie Osborne, Minister of Municipal Affairs, in a news release.

"This funding ensures community organizations can continue to provide programming to enhance public safety through emergency programs like search and rescue, and to steward and preserve our ecosystems for generations to come."

The following Prince George organizations are receiving funding:

  • $100,000 = Prince George Regional Highway Rescue Society
  • $100,000 = Prince George Search and Rescue Society
  • $80,000 = Prince George Humane Society
  • $26,000 = Prince George Recycling & Environmental Action & Planning Society (R.E.A.P.S.)
  • $6,750 = Prince George Crime Stoppers Association

Community Gaming Grants provide approximately $140 million each year to support nearly 5,000 organizations that deliver services to people throughout B.C.

Although there has been no change to the Community Gaming Grants program budget for 2020-21, this year’s recipients must comply with the provincial health officer's orders.

The program is also providing flexibility for organizations to delay project and service delivery until they can do so safely.
