The B.C. Automobile Association (BCAA) is looking to crown the worst road in the province, and five Prince George roads are amongst the top-10 contenders.

Motorists can nominate or vote for a road online by going to www.bcaa.com/worstroads. Voting runs until April 23.

Last year, Ospika Boulevard topped the list after garnering 552 votes -150 votes ahead of second-place finisher Enderby-Mabel Lake Road in Enderby, B.C.

As of Tuesday morning, Domano Boulevard was in second place for the 2012 title, behind Westside Road in Kelowna.

Tabor Road was tied for fifth place with the Pacific Rim Highway. Tied for sixth place is 15th Avenue and Edmond Street of Burnaby.

Massey Drive was tied for seventh place with Head Bay Road of Tahsis, B.C. and Foothills Boulevard held eighth place.

According to the BCAA, it defines a "worst road" as any piece of paved infrastructure-roads, tunnels and bridges -which has damaging potholes, needs resurfacing, is unsafe and contributes to accidents, is heavily congested, has inadequate road markings or signs, and/or is poorly designed for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists to share safely.

Poor roads add stress, danger and costs to motorists' daily driving, according to the BCAA.

Similar "Worst Road" contests conducted by the Canadian Automobile Association in other provinces have had significant results.

In Ontario, the CAA reports that over 90 per cent of the roads identified last year in Ontario's Top 20 Worst Roads have been fixed or are in the process of being fixed.

A spokesperson for the City of Prince George wasn't available as of press time.

However, some of the comments posted online by those who nominated Domano Boulevard include Roison Neville, who commented, "The stretch from Gladstone to Gladstone on Domano [Boulevard] keeps getting worse. People are taking alternate way[s] out of College Heights. [I] have to drive at five km/h and swerve into oncoming lane to get around pot holes."

"It's just too bad you can't vote for Prince George as a whole, there are too many roads in horrible shape to want to vote for only one," Jack Young wrote.

"Last year we were able to get Ospika [Boulevard] voted as B.C.'s worst road. This pressured ... our city council to resurface parts of Ospika [Boulevard] four years ahead of time," Wesley Lazette wrote. "Let's put more pressure on our city council."
