Five local organizations that host annual events are the latest recipients of the 2024 intake of the Celebrate PG grant. This grant helps registered not-for profits implement new or enhance current events that increase community pride and help attract visitors.

In total, just under $30,000 in funding is being handed out to non-profit organizations.

The full list of recipients are:

  • Prince George Symphony Orchestra, for the Pops in the Park event
  • Northern BC Queer Connection Society, for the Pride Picnic event
  • Method Dance Society, for the Community Moves event
  • PG Folkfest, for Coldsnap
  • Wild About Outdoors Learning Society, for the Wild About Lheidli T'enneh/Prince George (WALTPG) outdoor festival

Laura Binette from the Northern BC Queer Connection Society, which runs the Pride Picnic event each summer, said the $5,000 grant funding will allow them to bring more recognized music talent to the Pride Picnic.

“This will elevate the entertainment aspect of the annual pride picnic and contribute to Prince George’s growing reputation as a 2SLGBTQIA+ friendly community,” said Binette.

The Pride Picnic, which has been taking place since 2017, has grown from only 50 to up to 1,500 attendees.

“We are thrilled our application was successful and that we’re receiving the grant funding. I would encourage people to participate in the next intake of grant applications if you have an event,” she said.

Eligible applicants must be a registered non-profit society and the event must be within the City of Prince George Boundary and be open to the public.
