Spring is in full swing, Prince George!

As much as we’d like to spend it outside in the glowing warm sun, it’s also the time of year to get down and dusty with your home.

Spring cleaning is something to think about after a cold, lazy winter as it’s important to keep your home up-to-date.

This is especially critical if you have someone living with allergies under your roof because if they can’t get through the day outside, the same conditions inside won’t help at all.

So, here’s five tips to keep in mind if you plan on breaking out the brooms, dusters, and mops in the days and weeks ahead.

DECLUTTER YOUR MATERIALS

Decluttering leads to great organizational skills. Studies show a disorganized home can add to your stress level. So take time to organize your closets (yes, your big walk-in closet counts), dust the office room, and check out all junk drawers in the house

WORK FROM TOP TO BOTTOM

As hard as it is to accept, start from the (hard-to-reach) ceiling and work your way down to the floor. This technique allows the debris to go down and prevents you from re-cleaning. If you have a vacuum with an extension hose, use it to get cobwebs and dust from your ceilings and fans first. Then, dust your furniture and other items before vacuuming all the dust and debris off your floors. Trust us, it’s a real time-saver!

WALLS AND WINDOWS

Dust and dirt also get on the walls and windows of your home too, not just the floor. The best method is to use a damp towel to wipe down walls and blinds (again, starting from the top). Remove and wipe down the window screens outside.

GOT ALLERGIES?

Cleaning will likely bring out the winter dust and if you suffer from allergies, be sure to read the labels on all your cleaners. Be sure to wear rubber gloves, masks, and scarves; protective clothing will fight skin irritations and allergic reactions.

KITCHEN AND BATHROOM

Wipe down all your cabinets, go through your pantry and refrigerator, wipe down the shelves, and throw away any old items (because who wants moldy cheese, really?!?). For stainless steel, use gentle cleaners or a steam cleaner to avoid scratching.

In the bathroom, clean that shower curtain, go through your cosmetics drawer or medicine cabinet and throw away any expired items.
