The end of the school year is in less than two months and Prince George students of all ages will be looking forward to what Summer 2019 has to offer.
However, planning on being inside all day is likely not the best option, especially if you have a young budding athlete in the family.
So, how can they keep up with the skills of their respective sport this summer?
Local sports teams and facilities have a number of summer camp options for kids wishing to grow further in their development, some beginning as early as the May long weekend next week.
Here are five camps we found around Prince George by notable organizations, listed in chronological order, to consider enrolling the star athlete of your family.
NORTHERN CAPITALS TRY-OUT CAMP
Got a girl who loves hockey and wants to take it to the next level?
The Northern Capitals Female Hockey team is hosting open try-outs for three of its affiliated clubs, including the Midget ‘AAA’ squad that finished third in the B.C. league this past season.
The camps are also for the Under-16 and Under-18 teams.

GIRLS GOLF CLINIC
If you have a little Brooke Henderson in your family, or if your daughter is interested in taking up the game of golf, this camp is for them.
The Prince George Golf and Curling Club (PGGCC) is putting on a two-day, four-hour golf clinic for girls between five and 12 years old.
Haven’t pick a club a day in their life? No problem as no experience is required as the camp describes this as a special development program for learning and fun.
The clinic also includes crafts, snacks and prizes; the cost is only $10 per session.

PRINCE GEORGE BASEBALL CAMP
It’s baseball season across North America and if you’re looking to up your game on the field, then a Prince George-based program has got something for you.
Northern Baseball Training is putting on a summer camp for players of all ages, claiming they offer quality camps by local experts.
For $125 each, kids will be taught the basic skills of the sport and receive cool swag that includes custom Shorts, Under Armour Shirt, and Sac Pack.

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES SPORTS CAMP
Basketball and soccer stars unite!
UNBC Athletics is hosting a pair of summer camps for players in the respective sports wanting to up their skill level before the Fall.
The sessions are specific in terms of age; students in Grades Two to Seven will be together while those in high school (Grades Eight to 12) will have their own meet.
Each sport is offering two weeks of training at $160 each week, but if a kid attends both weeks, the cost is reduced by $20.

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS HOCKEY SCHOOL
The fact Prince George has a Western Hockey League (WHL) franchise is a big plus for young hockey players.
The Cougars Hockey School will be back up and running late in the summer for kids ages seven through 12 and will be split into three categories depending on how old they are.
A number of the sessions will involve training experience on and off the ice, as per popular demand, and each participant will receive a daily hot lunch, rides on the Cougars team bus to off-ice sessions, a jersey, and a membership into the 2019 Prince George Cougars Kids Club.
The camp costs $399 each and is first-come, first-serve as it only takes 24 players and four goaltenders per age group.
