A long awaited milestone for cancer treatment in northern B.C. has happened with the hiring and arrival of the first radiation oncologist for the BC Cancer Agency Centre for the North.
Dr. Robert Olson is the first of four radiation and three medical oncologists needed by the time the centre opens in late 2012.
Olson, who comes from Calgary, said he's "incredibly excited" to have such opportunities as working in the new cancer centre, being involved with the Northern Medical Program and having" lots of research opportunities."
"What's really exciting is that I get to shape things because it's a new program."
What he wasn't expecting was the excitement expressed around his coming.
"That was surprising," said Olson who's quite overwhelmed by what he calls the "can-do" attitude of the North. Read more in The Citizen
