Senior citizens across the country are being officially recognized today by the Canadian government for their countless contributions to the development of a nation.
On June 17 the House of Commons unanimously passed Bill C-40, an Act to establish National Seniors Day each year on Oct. 1.
By designating this day, Canada joins other countries in reflecting on the contributions seniors make to the economic and social fabric of Canadian society, said Noureen Khan, Immigrant and Multicultural Services Society in Prince George.
To celebrate this first national day for seniors, Prince George Council of Seniors and IMSS will hold a tea today from 2 to 4 p.m. at IMSS in the Redwood Square on Victoria Street. The pubic is invited to join the celebration that offers refreshments and entertainment.
