School will begin a day earlier than first planned, School District 57 officials said Wednesday.
The first day will be Tues., Sept. 6, officials said, after a non-instructional day for that date was postphoned due to the uncertainty over pending job action by teachers.
Teachers are in the midst of contract talks that appear far from settlement. They're threatening to refuse to do administrative work or attending meetings with management if an agreement is not reached.
Sept. 6 will be a shortened day, lasting just 90 minutes, with dismissal times varying from school to school. School buses will return students home shortly after dismissal.
The regular school day will start on Wed., Sept. 7. Gradual kindergarten entry schedules and bussing schedules will continue, as planned.
