Interior Health says a first and single case of measles has been discovered.

In a public service announcement dated today (March 9), Interior Health says the infection was most likely contracted outside of B.C. and is not linked to the cases on the B.C. coast.

Interior Health says they are following up with anyone who has been in contact with the patient to determine immunization status and, if necessary, offering post-exposure protection.

At this time, the risk to the broader public is considered low.

The health authority says if you were at any of the following locations during the dates and times listed, you may have been exposed and could be eligible for post-exposure protection:

  • Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019 - Tim Hortons, 100 Mile House, 4 to 6:30 p.m.
  • Friday, March 1, 2019 - Spruce Hills Resort, 108 Mile Ranch, 7 to 11 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 2, 2019 - Interlakes Market and Canco, Lone Butte, 5 to 7:30 p.m.
  • Saturday, March 2, 2019 - Interlakes Regional Library, Lone Butte, 5:30 to 8:15 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 3, 2019 - Smitty's Restaurant, 100 Mile House, 2:30 to 6 p.m.
  • Sunday, March 3, 2019 - Spruce Hills Resort, 108 Mile Ranch, 4:15 to 7:30 p.m.

If you were at these locations, call 1-855-549-6364 and speak with a public health nurse who will review your vaccine history, determine your immunity to measles and arrange for post-exposure prophylaxis if eligible.

If you are concerned about exposure to measles, watch for symptoms including:

  • Fever
  • Cough
  • Runny nose
  • Red and inflamed eyes
  • Followed by a rash which starts on the face and neck, spreading to the chest, arms and legs, and lasts for at least three days

If you are planning on attending a doctor's office or hospital and think you may have been exposed, call ahead so the office and hospital can plan to prevent further potential exposure.
