Firefighters extinguish fire at mobile home

Firefighters limited damage to a mobile home to about $5,000 when they were called to a fire Wednesday afternoon in the 1800 block of North Blackburn Road.

"On arrival, crews discovered smoke and fire coming from the underside of the home," Prince George Fire Rescue assistant chief Greg Wilkins said. "They were able to pull away skirting and quickly extinguish the flames."

They remained on scene for about an hour, checking for fire extension and clearing the residence of lingering smoke.

There were no reported injuries and the smell of smoke alerted residents who were at home at the time and they evacuated before firefighters, called out shortly after 2:30

p.m., had arrived.

"Preliminary indications point to plumbing work that was being done under the home earlier in the day as the source of the blaze," Wilkins said.
