Prince George Fire Rescue was called out Wednesday night to deal with a hazardous material leaking from a commercial truck.

On arrival at the scene in the 1500 block of Highway 97 North, firefighters found the rear compartment of the truck open and producing a small vapor cloud while reacting with the bed of the vehicle and asphalt.

Crews were on scene for about seven hours identifying, containing and neutralizing the product, which was found to be muriatic acid.

The product was contained and neutralized and there were no injuries, assistant fire chief Denis Poulin said.

Fourteen firefighters from three halls along with five members from the hazardous materials tactical team and one member from Ministry of Environment responded to the call, which came in at about 10 p.m.
