At almost 4 a.m. the alarm sounded for Prince George Fire Rescue Service. Firefighters were dispatched to a possible kitchen fire at a townhouse complex at 111 South Tabor Boulevard.

"The fire was quickly extinguished and was confined to an area behind the refrigerator," said PGFRS assistant chief Elden Gjerde. "The cause of the fire was electrical, and damage is estimated at $ 25,000."

Most of that damage was related to smoke and water.

"There was one occupant at home at the time and was able to exit on their own," said Gjerde. "The occupant was examined by B.C Ambulance for possible smoke inhalation and transported to University Hospital of Northern B.C."

Firefighters were on scene for about 1 1/2 hours.
