If you see smoke coming from the vicinity of the Prince George Airport, don't be alarmed.

That black smoke seen from the airport over the next couple of weeks is just training exercises like this one seen in 2013.

If you see smoke coming from the vicinity of the Prince George Airport, don't be alarmed.

As part of ongoing recurrent fire training and certification, the Prince George Airport Authority will be conducting aviation related fires in the fire training area several times over the next few weeks.

It's scheduled to start Monday, running from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. and then on Wednesday and Thursday this week, and on Tuesday, Oct. 6 and Tuesday, Oct. 13, also from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m.

The PGAA is asking residents to refrain from calling 911 if they see smoke coming from the area at those times.

"These fires may produce dark smoke in and around the airport area which has, in the past, caused concern from local residents resulting in increased call volumes to your agencies," PGAA said Monday. "These fires are held in self-contained training facilities under controlled circumstances and pose no threat to the public or surrounding areas."

The training will be postponed if there is a lightning storm in the area.
