Prince George Airport will be the site of firefighter training for the next two weeks.

The first session began Tuesday and will continue Thursday and Friday and then next Monday and Tuesday from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

They're working on aviation-related structural fires in the airport's fire training area.

"These fires may produce dark smoke in and around the airport area, which has in the past caused concern from local residents," Prince George Airport Authority spokesperson Lindsay Cotter said. "These fires are held in self-contained training facilities under controlled circumstances and pose no threat to the public or surrounding areas."
