Emergency crews were called to a fire at the historic Croft Hotel on Fourth Avenue just before 8 p.m. on Thursday.
Patrons at the bar reported smoke and flames coming from a vent inside the bar area of the hotel, Prince George Fire Rescue Service Chief John Lane said. The fire was brought quickly under control, but work continued as of press time to remove the flooring and determine the source of the fire.
"It's just an old, old building and it's a bit of a challenge to get into the floor," said Lane.
No one was injured in the fire and firefighters were still on the scene as of 9:54 p.m. on Thursday.
Firefighters intially found heavy smoke in the bar area of the hotel. Emergency crews searched the building to ensure all occupants were safe and located a fire in the crawlspace beneath the first floor, Lane said.
A total of 15 fire fighters from three fire halls responded to the blaze.
According to a report by the Prince George Heritage Commission, the hotel was built in 1929 by James Douglas Corning and was formerly known as the Corning Hotel.
