Prince George Fire Rescue Service will be stressing the importance of having "two ways out" when they hold fire prevention week later this month.
"It is very important to have two ways out of your home in the event of a fire, a working smoke alarm and a home escape plan go hand in hand," chief fire prevention officer Dennis Perrault said
"The working smoke alarm will provide the early warning and a well practiced home escape plan will detail the ways out of the home."
Fire prevention week starts on Oct. 7 and culminates in fire safety day on Oct. 12, where there the Hall #3 fire engine and tender will be on site and fire prevention branch and the hall's crew will be manning an information table.
During the week, fire officials will be delivering packages to youngsters in Grades 1 to 3.
The packages include a brochure on fire safety, a chance to win a laptop and a chance to be Prince George's fire chief for a day. One child will win the laptop and one from each of Prince George's four response areas will win the fire chief for a day contest.
The winners will visit Fire Hall # 1 on Saturday, Oct. 20, where they'll they tour the hall, meet the fire chief and crew, get their photographs taken in the chief's office, and receive a T-shirt and other gifts before a ride in a fire engine to the Victoria Street McDonald's for lunch.
