Queensway apartment fire
A fire-damaged apartment suite at 1438 Queensway is seen on Wednesday afternoon.

A resident was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation after an apartment building fire on Queensway overnight.

Four Prince George Fire Rescue halls responded at 1:15 a.m. to the blaze at 1438 Queensway. Firefighters found an apartment engulfed in flames on the third floor of the building.

The fire caused an estimated $200,000 damage to the building but was mostly confined to the single apartment. Residents were able to return to their homes except for the fire-damaged suite and a neighbouring apartment that saw fire and water damage.

There were approximately 30 people in the complex at the time of the fire. All occupants were alerted to the fire by the alarm system and were able to evacuate the building safely.

A fire investigation found the blaze originated to a space bedroom/office area. The accidential fire was due to electrical equipment. There was no update available as of Wednesday afternoon on the condition of the person taken to hospital.
