Fire gutted a car parked in a driveway in the 2600 block of Ewert Crescent early Saturday morning.

At approximately 4 a.m. neighbour Jack Bellamy heard a car alarm going off repeatedly next door.

"After about a minute or so, my wife looked out the window. As soon as she said, 'fire,' I jumped out [of bed] threw my clothes on and ran outside," Bellamy said. "I grabbed my water hose and ran over there."

Fire was billowing out of the interior of his neighbour's newer-model, silver Pontiac G5 sedan, he said.

"It was popping and booming as I stood there. It burned so fast and hot that by the time the fire department got there... it had started to die down. It ran out of stuff to burn," Bellamy said. "It was darn close.... we could have lost the houses."

Bellamy and his neighbour who owned the car used garden hoses to contain the blaze.

"It started to melt the plastic on the vehicle ahead of it. If that had caught fire, it could have spread to his car park," Bellamy said. "The aluminum siding on the house was starting to get warm."

The Prince George Fire Rescue Service has not released any information about the cause of the fire as of press time.
