A little more than two years after taking the helm of Prince George Fire Rescue, chief John Lane has left his post with the city.
Deputy chief John Iverson was named as his interim replacement.
Lane took over from his predecessor Jeff Rowland in June 2011. Rowland served as the head firefighter beginning in 2003 until his 2011 retirement.
After serving with Toronto Fire Services, Lane came to the Prince George department in 2005. Among his accomplishments was implementing the Emergency Medical Responder program, which trains firefighters to provide medical assistance above the first responder level. This includes preparing patients for transport, performing blood glucose measurements and intravenous maintenance and administering nitrous oxide for pain relief to patients in prolonged situations such as ambulance delay.
When he was named chief, Lane said he was looking "forward to the many challenges that lay ahead."
No official reason for Lane's resignation has been released.
