Fire Prevention Week is Oct. 3 to 9.

This year's message is "Smoke Alarms: A Sound You Can Live With" which also includes home escape plans and burn prevention.

In Prince George the special week kicks off at Canadian Tire Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. where Prince George Fire Rescue Service will have a fire safety table, fire engine and crew on site.

"Fire Prevention Branch is kept busy during Fire Prevention Week presenting the Hazard House to elementary children in local schools. It's a great year-round tool used to educate elementary children on various aspects of fire safety, escape plans and the need to have working smoke alarms in the home.

During Fire Prevention Week elementary students are encouragedto enter a Fire Chief For A Day draw to visit Fire Hall No 1 where they tour the hall, have their picture taken, receive a T-shirt, visit with fire fighters and ride the fire engine to McDonald's.

Children from four areas of the city will win the fire hall visit on Saturday following Fire Prevention Week.

McDonalds have supported this event for a number of years. They play host not only to the four lucky children from our city, but also to the children selected from the surrounding communities.
