Fifteen new COVID cases reported in northern B.C. in final daily update

B.C. will begin reporting COVID-19 data on a weekly basis, starting on Thursday.

The B.C. Ministry of Health reported 15 new cases of COVID-19 in the Northern Health region in its final daily COVID update on Wednesday.

Starting on Thursday, the province will update the province’s COVID-19 statistics on a weekly basis. The province stopped reporting the number of active cases in February.

Throughout B.C., a total of 329 people were hospitalized with COVID-19, of which 37 were in intensive care. Hospitalization numbers for the Northern Health region weren’t provided. As of April 1, the last time the B.C. Centre for Disease Control updated its COVID-19 dashboard, there were 19 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in Northern Health, five of whom were in critical care.

An update on COVID-related deaths was expected on Thursday.

As of Wednesday, 90.9 per cent of eligible British Columbians (aged five and older) had received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 87.5 per cent had received two doses. In addition, 57.8 per cent of people age 12 and older had gotten a booster shot.

Unvaccinated people represent 12 per cent of the B.C. population is unvaccinated, but 19 per cent of people in critical care with COVID-19 are unvaccinated.

A total of 11.51 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in B.C.

Starting on Friday, patrons at restaurants, theatres, arenas and other venues will no longer be required to show proof of vaccination to enter.
