The Festival of Trees raised more than $670,000 this year for the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation and $200,000 will go towards the Breast Health Imaging Centre.

"Few people have not been touched by someone close to them who have been affected by breast cancer," said Judy Neiser, CEO for Spirit of the North.

"In collaboration with Northern Health's efforts to move towards digital mammography early next year this was a request that we knew would have large public appeal, and we are so thankful for such overwhelming support from our donors. It's all about local dollars staying right here in the North."

The Civic Centre event was held for 10 days and took hundreds of volunteers to help organize.

"Every little bit counts, regardless of what level a person can participate," said Colleen Sparrow, foundation president.

"It's all about a community pulling together for a common goal. We have a very generous community with both their time and their support."
