The Prince George RCMP's serious crime unit is investigating of a motor vehicle incident Saturday morning in the Red Rock area that left one man dead and a women in critical condition.

Prince George RCMP Cst. Lesley Smith said police were called at 5:27 a.m. to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the area south of Prince George.

The vehicle involved had fled the area, Smith said, but was then located by a witness a short distance away, down an embankment on a forest service road.

"In essence right now we have a Motor Vehicle Incident and a series of other possible criminal elements to investigate which includes the death of a male and a female who has serious injuries," Smith said in a press release.

The serious crime unit is leading the investigation with assistance from North District RCMP and the RCMP's provincial office.

To date, the incident is limited to the individuals known to be involved and therefore does not pose a threat to the public, Smith said.

Police have identified both the male and female and Smith said information regarding the matter will be made public as the investigation progresses.

"This investigation is still at a very preliminary stage and we are not in a position to be releasing any details regarding our current findings nor any details with respect to the parties involved at this time," Smith said.
