The Prince George Community Foundation, through its partnership with True Sport, has provided the Family Y with a grant of $4,500 for its Aurora Leadership Program.
The program, aimed at teenagers who have participated in summer camps such as Camp Kanannaq, offers outdoor leadership activities for youth aged 13 to 15. Over the 10-day program to be offered in three sessions this summer, campers will learn survival skills through overnight camping trips.
The Ryan Shiels Memorial Fund and an anonymous donor combined to match 75 per cent of the grant from True Sport. The Family Y also committed to matching at least 50 per cent of the grant through in-kind donations, such as volunteer hours.
Some of the funding is also going towards an open house at the Family Y on Sunday from noon to 3 p.m.
The Aurora Leadership Program is the third of six grants the Prince George Community Foundation and True Sport have announced. The recipients of the final three grants will be announced between now and June.
