Turtle Gardens has been home to over 4,000 dogs over the last twenty years.
Yvette Labatte turned her home into a no-kill rescue facility located in Topley B.C., north of Burns Lake.
"There were absolutely no animal shelters for 250 kilometers. After 20 years, we're still the only ones here," said Labatte.
But the shelter is now running into a shortage of funds to keep up the shelter because cuts to funding in the provincial government.
Their latest fundraiser is a raffle, with first prize being an all inclusive seven day trip to Mexico for two, donated by escape.ca.
That's just one of 55 prizes.
Most of the dogs Labatte and her husband Dave take in are strays. A lot of the time the dogs have never been inside before, hanging around the outskirts of towns and reserves.
"They all stay inside with us, so they get used to a family atmosphere," said Labatte.
"Our house has been renovated for the comfort of the dogs, not for humans."
Every dog goes through two check-ups with the vet, and gets two vaccinations. Adult dogs will also be spayed or neutered.
The draw for the raffle is August 14, and you can contract Turtle Gardens for tickets through their web site at www.turtlegardens.org.
