A special-needs boy is still missing his best friend.
Boss the missing Yorkie has been gone since Saturday, when he went too far from the yard while doing his evening business. This was the semi-rural area of town between Haldi Road and Blackwater Road.
His buddy Brendan was in Vancouver at the time, undergoing treatment for the effects of severe cerebral palsy. When Brendan came back home, and his cuddly canine companion was gone, it set his condition back.
His mom Krystel McKinnon went on a poster campaign, and got the word out via social media. Clues emerged, including a strong lead that a woman in uniform was seen stopped near their home that night, with the dog.
Thanks to the media attention on the missing Yorkie, that person of interest recognized herself in the descriptions and came forward.
"She was a paramedic," said McKinnon on Friday. "She said it definitely was my dog but he ran back into the trees. This has been devastating. Another lady called to offer us another dog but we just want our family member back."
They have been walking and quadding through the neighbourhood, and going door to door, ever since. "It's consuming us. I know my dog and he'd never go into straight bush. He'd stay on the road or trails. He's scared of the bush. Every trail ends on road," said McKinnon."
A reward was offered immediately and by Friday evening McKinnon was having to refresh all the posters - those that hadn't already been taken down due to vandalism or disrespect for the circumstances - to update the amount.
"We raised it now to $500," McKinnon said, with the help of donated funds that have come forth.
