A Facebook page has resulted in the arrest of a wanted man.
A concerned citizen launched the page dedicated to seeking information on a local assault that severely hurt a Prince George victim on Sept. 23.
That social media site went viral, at least among those close to the incident.
Police had been looking for months for main suspect Aaron Raymond Munch, and tips posted on the Facebook page led them to Munch's location.
On Oct. 1, 2011 at approximately 5:30 p.m., Munch was arrested in West Kelowna "despite attempting to flee and providing a false name," according to police.
"This arrest was a direct result of the tips received by police," said Prince George RCMP spokesman Cpl. Craig Douglass.
"This was not us, but a privately posted thread set up on Facebook. But what they did was provide a police phone number and email address, and the phone started ringing day and night, and the information had substance. We had multiple tips on the same locations and activities that quite clearly led police to locate this suspect. A number of people were interested in making sure he was caught."
Munch has now been charged with aggravated assault and theft.
The assault allegation is in relation to a 24-year-old female who sustained severe injuries to her face. She is now recovering after a period of hospitalization.
Munch, 29, is a Prince George resident with ties to the Peace River region. He is currently in custody at Prince George Regional Correction Centre and is scheduled to appear in provincial court on Oct. 19.
