An arrest has been made and a police investigation is underway in the death of a former Prince George man in the Lower Mainland.
Darcy Garnot, 37, was struck and killed on a Chilliwack street Sunday evening. RCMP there allege the incident was a hit-and-run.
"Darcy Garnot was walking with his girlfriend on the sidewalk east along First Avenue near Nowell Street when a vehicle drove up and struck him from behind," said Cpl. Tammy Hollingsworth, spokeswoman for the Upper Fraser Valley regional RCMP detachment.
Garnot succumbed to his injuries during that night.
"The alleged driver and the suspect vehicle were located by police the very next morning. [The suspect] was subsequently arrested and his vehicle seized," Hollingsworth said.
Chilliwack resident Gary Allain, 66, has been charged with criminal negligence causing death, and failure to stop causing death. His next court appearance is on May 8, 2012. He and Garnot were not known to each other.
Garnot had been a resident of Chilliwack since 2003 but was originally from Prince George.
