A cooking incident was the cause of a fire at a local hotel Wednesday night (May 15).

That’s according to Prince George Fire Rescue after responding to reports of a possible two-storey structure fire in the 1500-block Victoria St. after 9 p.m.

Firefighters from four different halls saw light-coloured smoke rising from one of the hotel rooms when they first arrived.

One person was inside the room when the fire started, but made it out safely with no injuries.

A quick attack put the flames out thanks to company staff using a fire extinguisher, while crews checked for fire extension and ventilated the unit.

There were no injuries to fire crews as well and the damage bill is an estimated $10,000.
